Στην τηλεοπτική σειρά '' The Flash'' (πρώτη εικόνα δεξιά), Ο Μπάρι Άλεν ήταν μόλις 11 ετών όταν δολοφονήθηκε η μητέρα του. Για το αποτρόπαιο έγκλημα κατηγορήθηκε και καταδικάστηκε άδικα ο πατέρας του.

Αυτή η οικογενειακή τραγωδία άλλαξε για πάντα τη ζωή του. Ο Μπάρι θα μεγαλώσει κοντά στην οικογένεια του  καλύτερου φίλου του πατέρα του, του ντετέκτιβ Γουέστ. Γίνεται ένας εξαίρετος επιστήμονας εγκλημάτων αλλά παραμένει κοινωνικά απροσάρμοστος, παράξενος, ενώ το παρελθόν του δεν τον βοήθα να αλλάξει συμπεριφορά και χαρακτήρα.

Ο Μπάρι έχει ένα στόχο ζωής, να αποκαλύψει την αλήθεια γύρω από το θάνατο της μητέρας του.

Η αποφασιστικότητα και επιμονή του αυτή, τον ωθεί να ασχολείται με κάθε ανεξήγητο αστικό θρύλο αλλά και κάθε νέα επιστημονική ανακάλυψη.

Η τελευταία εμμονή του Μπάρι είναι ένας εξελιγμένος επιταχυντής σωματιδίων, δημιούργημα του οραματιστή φυσικού, Χάρισον Γουέλς και της επιστημονικής του ομάδας.

Όμως κάτι θα πάει τρομακτικά στραβά στη δημόσια παρουσίαση του επιταχυντή. Μία φοβερή έκρηξη θα προκαλέσει μία παράδοξη, καταστροφική καταιγίδα, κατά την οποία θα χαθούν ζωές ενώ ο Μπάρι θα πέσει σε κώμα για εννέα ολόκληρους μήνες.

 Όταν ξυπνήσει, θα συνειδητοποιήσει ότι για μία ακόμη φορά, η ζωή του αλλάζει δραματικά. Το ατύχημα του έχει δώσει την υπεράνθρωπη δύναμη της σούπερ ταχύτητα. Ο Μπάρι θα ανακαλύψει ότι δεν είναι ο μόνος, που «επηρεάστηκε» από τη φοβερή έκρηξη. Και δυστυχώς οι περισσότεροι δεν χρησιμοποιούν μία τεράστια δύναμη για καλό αλλά για σκοτεινούς, ιδιοτελείς σκοπούς.

Με τη βία και την εγκληματικότητα να αυξάνονται συνεχώς στη πόλη, ο Μπάρι, θα πάρει μια μεγάλη απόφαση, να γίνει ο προστάτης της Central City, να χρησιμοποιήσει το χάρισμά του για να προστατέψει αθώους πολίτες ενώ θα συνεχίσει να προσπαθεί να εκπληρώσει τον σκοπό του: να λύσει το μυστήριο του θανάτου της μητέρας του και να «καθαρίσει» το όνομα του πατέρα του, με τη βοήθεια λίγων και πιστών φίλων, που ξέρουν το μεγάλο μυστικό του…

Το πρώτο κόμικς στην ιστορία με κεντρικό ήρωα τον 'Φλας' εκδόθηκε τον Ιανουάριο του 1940 (1η εικόνα αριστερά).

The Flash (Bartholomew Henry Allen) is a superhero who appears in comics published by DC Comics. The character first appeared in Showcase #4 (October 1956), created by writer Robert Kanigher and penciler Carmine Infantino (2nd picture on left)

However, Barry Allen is a reinvention of a previous character called the Flash, who appeared in 1940s comic books as the character Jay Garrick. His power consists mainly of superhuman speed. Jay Garrick is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He is the first superhero known as the Flash. The character was created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert. He first appeared in Flash Comics 1 (1940). (picture on top left )

 

After witnessing his mother's supernatural murder at the age of 11, Barry Allen is taken in by Detective Joe West and his family. Barry becomes a brilliant but socially awkward crime scene investigator for the Central City Police Department. A particle accelerator malfunctions, bathing the city center with a radiation during a thunderstorm, and Barry is struck by lightning. Awakening after a 9 months coma, he discovers he can move at superhuman speeds. Harrison Wells, the accelerator's designer, describes Barry's nature as "metahuman". Barry vows to use his gifts to protect Central City. As the Flash, Barry also pursues his mother's murderer, the Reverse-Flash.

Barry Allen is a police scientist (his job title was changed to a forensic scientist in The Flash: Iron Heights one-shot) with a reputation for being very slow, and frequently late, which frustrates his fiancée, Iris West, as the result of being absent-minded and his devotion to crime-solving. One night, as he is working late, a lightning bolt shatters a case full of chemicals and spills all over Barry. As a result, Allen finds that he can run extremely fast and has matching reflexes and senses. He dons a set of red tights sporting a lightning bolt (reminiscent of the original Fawcett Comics Captain Marvel), dubs himself the Flash (after his childhood comic book hero, Jay Garrick), and becomes Central City's resident costumed crimefighter.[1] Central City University professor Ira West (Iris' adoptive father) designed Allen's costume and the ring which stores it while Allen is in his civilian identity.[2] The ring can eject the compressed clothing when Allen needs it and suck it back in with the aid of a special gas that shrinks the suit. In addition, Allen invented the cosmic treadmill, a device that allowed for precise time travel and was used in many stories. Allen was so well liked that nearly all speedsters that come after him are often compared to him. Batman once said "Barry is the kind of man that I would've hoped to become if my parents had not been murdered."
